Women in Tech

Women in Tech

"As a woman in tech, I still need to remember to look up to the sky !"

How long have you been in the telecommunication and technology industry?

“How I started!!! Well to be honest it was by default; it was never my chosen career.”

“As women do; they support their husbands / partners and children in their lives and careers. As a woman I encouraged, listened, supported, and assisted with decisions, presentations, we talked about the tech industry and all the different people and companies we encountered and who was who. To be honest it became second nature over the past 30 years. I was learning and teaching myself about the tech industry without realising. So why not use my knowledge to better the company. And that is what I have done and continue to do”

How do you currently see equality in the tech industry?

“Being a co-founder of the business in the industry over the last 15 years, it has been a huge learning curve knowing and believing in your strengths and new learning curves.  Knowledge is key and having an understanding is important when presenting yourself in a group or meeting. As a woman and of colour believing in yourself and staying true to oneself is important.

There will always be challenges when it comes to equality, but I have never experienced these challenges, and this does not have to become your issue.”

Why do you think it is important for more women to join the tech industry ?

“Tech is forever evolving and keeping up with the times is key. Tech is part of our everyday lives for all of us, so we as women are setting the standards of this industry to become more inclusive. A women’s perspective is to inspire and teach and to be a true female role model, as together we make the world go around.” I am just keeping it simple !

What piece of advice do you have for future generations enter tech?

“I would like to encourage young girls/women to enter this forever evolving industry as this will pave the way forward for new ideas and innovation. Believing in yourself and following your passion.”

“One more piece of advice - From your first interview/ meeting always complete your due diligence about the company and not read off their website! Do your research.”

As we know every day is a learning day ! And with the right attitude you will be successful.”
